Monday –
- Under the Banyan Tree – Homelessness. We did a discussion topic around a story about a homeless dog. We used this story to talk about people without homes and how they must feel. We talked about what we are grateful for.
- Individualized Instruction- Transportation. We looked at and learned about the different types of transport used around the world (tuk-tuks, gondolas, etc).
- Creative Play- Different musical instruments and recognizing their sounds.
- Brain Exercise- Played games that help develop visual perception and matching skills.
Tuesday –
- Under the Banyan Tree – Underprivileged kids and what play means to them. Learned about a project called “One World Futbol”
- FIELD TRIP TO DURHAM LIFE & SCIENCES MUSEUM
- Creative Play- Baking cookies
- Brain Exercise- Fraction
Wednesday-
- Under the Banyan Tree – Donation. Watched a video of a girl giving away things and we talked about why people donate and how it feels to donate.
- Individualized Instruction- Sea life: reading comprehension, word puzzles, etc
- Creative Play- Watched Finding Nemo and talked about the plot, characters, setting etc of the movie.
- Brain Exercise – Played games that help develop quick mental processing and sharpen cognitive skills.
Thursday-
- Under the Banyan Tree – Abraham Lincoln. Short stories about his life.
- Individualized Instruction- Planet Mars: Fill in the blanks & Reading comprehension.
- Creative Play- Made the red planet out of paper mache!
- Brain Exercise- We learned of different ways to memorize and retain names of presidents, order of the planets, etc by using pictures and mnemonic devices.
Fridays-
- Under the Banyan Tree – Honesty: Watched a slideshow story about a dishonest house.
- Individualized Instruction- Spelling and Reading
- Creative Play- The kids each made a beautiful card with a letter inside it for their parents.
- Brain Exercise- We learned about the science behind cotton candy and made some cotton candy ourselves to see the science in action!
