I always cringe when I see a toddler’s hands holding an iPhone, while their eyes are glued to the screen and their mouth is open with saliva coming out. DVD players for on the road, televisions assuming their role as babysitters, iPads and video games to keep our children away from reading a book or playing outside, are all preventing our children from……just being children. As parents we find comfort and take pride in thinking that overscheduling activities and buying children ‘educational’ video games are helping them to become better than most. Children need endless hours of freedom and time to think, to create and to imagine. They need less time in front of screens and more time to wander around aimlessly. This article is about the lack of mindfulness in children these days. Good read!
