There is no arguing that Music does something to all of us – emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally. Research has found music to be helpful in healing many health ailments, improving language development, increasing IQ, improving brain function, improving spatial-temporal skills and so much more. But did you know that music also helps focus better, it helps with concentration, memory, learning, thinking and studies have even shown that music has helped increase test scores in children. Music helps us destress, increases our productivity and music inspires and motivates us to do better.
No, I am not talking about Eminem’s rap or the latest song by Beyonce! All research points to classical music as being the most beneficial in helping children and adults. I recently read this article from the John Hopkins School of Education: http://education.jhu.edu/PD/newhorizons/strategies/topics/Arts%20in%20Education/brewer.htm
This article plus my research (some link below) into this subject has led me to playing classical pieces (from Vivaldi, Bach, Salieri, Mozart, etc) during my coaching classes. I don’t have it on everyday or for the entire hour. I am keen to observe the differences it makes in helping the children focus and concentrate.
